Safeguarding

"We have a commitment to safeguard our children".

Connor Downs Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and procedures in place which we refer to in our policy below.  Parents and carers are welcome to request a hard copy from the school office.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare.  We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such action would be contrary to the child's welfare.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Head of School Mrs Eddy

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL) is Mr Pascoe

Aspire Director for Safeguarding is Mrs Sally Hannaford

Designated Person for Children in Care is Mrs Eddy

Mrs Eddy is the contact person for Operation Encompass, VIST notifications, the Preventing Radicalisation Agenda and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility.

OPERATION ENCOMPASS

Connor Downs Academy has joined Operation Encompass, a project that is run jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools by the police, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident, and the police have been called.

Operation Encompass ensures that a member of the school staff, known as the Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this is extremely beneficial for all those involved.

Our trained Key Adults at Connor Downs Academy are:

Mrs J Eddy (Safeguarding Lead / Head of School)

Mr R Pascoe (Deputy Safeguarding Lead)
