Music

'Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and life to everything... Without music, life would be an error.'
Plato.
At Connor Downs Academy, we aim to provide children with a high quality education in music, which develops their confidence in appraising, composing and performing skills. We understand and recognise that singing can reduce stress, increase confidence, and help with breathing and posture. Music can also have a positive effect on individual and collective mental health and wellbeing.

At Connor Downs Academy, we follow the Charanga Primary Music Scheme to ensure that our lessons are well-structured, knowledge rich and stimulating. Charanga works seamlessly with the national curriculum, ensuring that learners revisit the interrelated dimensions of music: pulse, voice, pitch and rhythm - building upon previous learning and skills. Charanga enables the children to engage in a developmental learning spiral, which allows established musical skills and concepts to be re-visited to further their understanding of music.

We also work closely with the ASOneHub and Cornwall Music Service Trust to provide specialist lessons where our children can learn to play a brass instrument in a series of ten lessons.
