EYFS

Home Learning Update - 08.06.20

As of today, Monday 8th June, all EYFS home learning will be shared, via Tapestry, in video format. These videos are not online teaching, but rather an opportunity for the children to see Mr Masters and understand that the challenges set are provided by him.

All Reception parents and carers are confirmed to have access to an active Tapestry account. If you are experiencing difficulty accessing your Tapestry account, please contact the school office.

Letters and Sounds Online Lessons for Reception and Year 1

As many of you will already know, a fantastic range of online phonics lessons and resources are now available for children to access online, such as the Ruth Miskin videos. From Monday 27th April onwards, the Letters and Sounds YouTube channel will be releasing 12 weeks of summer-term phonics lessons online. These lessons are free, aimed at YR and Y1 children, and can be accessed with the following link:

At Connor Downs Academy, Letters and Sounds provides the sequence and progression of our phonics learning, so please feel free to supplement your child's current phonics learning with these videos, if you wish. It's worth noting that in our phonics inputs at school, we have adopted the RWI term 'special friends' in place of the technical vocabulary 'digraph' and 'trigraph'. You may hear these terms used in the Letters and Sounds videos. It is fine for children to know this vocabulary but, as it is technical and lacks context, we refrain from using it and always refer to these sounds as 'special friends'. We believe that 'special friends' is more child-friendly, as it provides a clear context for children to understand.
