Happy New Year, I hope you and your families are staying safe and well. It was lovely to welcome pupils and families back online and hear exciting stories and holiday news. Thank you for the amazing selection of home learning and photos which is being shared daily. It is great to feel so connected during this challenging time. I will also share photos and work via our school Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Please find below an overview of our learning this term which is uploaded onto Google Classroom every school day.

What we will be doing:

Maths: The children will be working on data handling including: completing a frequency table and using it to answer questions, collecting and sorting information using a Venn diagram, Measuring involving money, recognising and using £ and p signs and answering related questions in a variety of formats. We will be identifying and describing the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and ordering and arranging combinations in patterns and sequences. Our number focus will be fractions, we will recognise, find and write thirds and quarters of a length, shape, set of objects and quantities. We will learn to recognise equivalent fractions.

English:  The work will be directly linked to the Inspire Curriculum and will include story writing based on a traditional tale The Sun and the Wind and instructions linked to our theme Blown Away. The children will write in a variety genres including poetry, letter-writing (to pen pals in our French link school) and to Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk, also they will write news recounts, stories and factual reports.   Spellings will continue to be set weekly and tested at home on a Friday.  The class book will be Little Evie in the Wild Wood by Jackie Morris and illustrated by Catherine Hyde as the children requested work linked to learning about alternative traditional tales, which this story encompasses. I met both the author and illustrator at the book launch last year and when I spoke about the class they kindly gave me a superb power point showing the stages involving in writing it and illustrating it which I am looking forward to using in class. We have signed copies of the book to read and share.

Science/Inspire:  Our Inspire themes this term are Blown Away, Town Mouse/Country Mouse and Sowing and Growing. The children will be finding out about the weather and climates around the world. They will design and make weather collecting instruments to collect data about our weather which will be used to support and extend learning in maths and computing. Inspire will also include the National Curriculum subjects of Computing, ART, Design Technology and Music.  Not every subject is taught every week but will be fully covered during the course of the term

R.E. In the classroom and online we will be learning about our Cornish Celtic saints. Nearer to the end of term we will be researching Easter around the world and presenting our findings in a power point.

SMSC:  The children will set themselves goals and work towards these throughout the term.  They will also look at the skills which make an effective learner and will recognise their strengths, how we can learn from mistakes and how to resist distractions to become resilient learners.

P.E.: A PE task has been added to the terms Homework Grid and related challenges will be set via Google Classroom. We will also be following Joe Wicks weekly workouts.
